What MSM Research Actually Shows
This formula provides 2400mg of MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) with 100mg of vitamin C per 2-tablet serving — a dose within the 1,000-3,000mg range most research is based on. As covered in more detail in our complete MSM guide, it’s worth being accurate about the joint-related evidence specifically: a 2011 meta-analysis of MSM and the related compound DMSO found no statistically or clinically significant reduction in osteoarthritis pain, while several individual randomised trials, including more recent ones, have found meaningful improvements in knee pain and stiffness measures. This is a genuinely mixed picture — reasonable to try, but not settled, confident support.
We can’t verify the claim that this combination offers “more potent effects than pure MSM capsules or flakes” — this reads as an unsubstantiated comparative claim rather than an independently confirmed finding, worth reading with some scepticism.
Vitamin C has an established, EU-authorised role in normal collagen formation (relevant to cartilage, bone, and blood vessels), protection from oxidative stress, energy metabolism, and nervous system function — genuine, though these are vitamin C’s own established roles specifically, distinct from MSM’s separate, more mixed evidence base above.
On safety: a 16-week randomised trial at 6g daily found no changes in liver or kidney function, reassuring for standard dosing. Some literature has noted unconfirmed reports of increased blood pressure, altered liver enzyme readings, and enhanced effects of anticoagulant medication — worth mentioning to your GP if you take blood thinners or have an existing liver or kidney condition, even though these reports remain unproven rather than well-established risks. Mild digestive discomfort, headaches, and occasional skin irritation are the more commonly reported, genuine side effects.
