What Chromium Research Actually Shows
This tablet provides 200µg of elemental chromium as chromium picolinate. As covered in more detail in our blood sugar supplements guide, chromium is recognised by the UK’s Food Standards Agency as contributing to normal macronutrient metabolism and maintenance of normal blood glucose levels — a genuine, established baseline role. It’s worth being accurate about chromium picolinate specifically, though: results across clinical trials exploring insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance in people with type 2 diabetes have been genuinely inconsistent, and larger, more consistent studies are needed before firmer conclusions can be drawn.
We couldn’t find research specifically supporting “reducing sugar cravings” as an established effect of chromium — this appears to be a marketing extension beyond what the underlying blood glucose research actually demonstrates, worth reading with some scepticism.
This product’s own safety note is accurate and important: chromium affects insulin levels, so diabetics should only supplement with chromium after consultation with, and under the supervision of, a doctor — this isn’t optional given chromium’s genuine potential to have an additive effect alongside diabetes medication, increasing the risk of blood sugar dropping too low.
