An Important Note Before Anything Else: Krill Is a Crustacean
This product is not suitable for anyone with a shellfish or crustacean allergy, and this matters more than any of the benefits discussed below — please check this applies to you before considering this product, regardless of its other qualities.
With that established: this krill oil provides omega-3s bound to phospholipids rather than the triglyceride form found in standard fish oil, which some research suggests may be somewhat more efficiently absorbed — as covered in more detail in our complete krill oil guide, this is a genuine area of research interest, though fish oil capsules generally contain more total omega-3, so the comparison isn’t simply “better,” just structurally different. Each 2-capsule serving provides 267mg total omega-3 (127mg EPA, 75mg DHA) alongside 200μg of naturally occurring astaxanthin, the carotenoid that gives krill oil its red colour — astaxanthin has its own separate research interest, covered in our astaxanthin guide, particularly for eye and skin health specifically.
EPA and DHA contribute to normal heart function, and DHA supports normal brain and eye function — established roles reflected in this formula’s brain, cardiovascular, and vision-related properties. On liver health specifically: most of the research behind this claim comes from animal studies exploring krill oil’s effect on liver fat accumulation, rather than large human trials, so it’s worth reading as a genuinely interesting area of ongoing research rather than an established human benefit. Claims linking omega-3 intake to bone density and calcium absorption specifically are less consistently supported in research than the areas above, and are worth treating as preliminary.
Worth knowing: krill oil has mild blood-thinning properties, similar to standard fish oil, so speak to your GP before regular use if you take anticoagulant medication such as warfarin.
This product is Friend of the Sea and MSC certified for sustainable sourcing, manufactured in the UK to GMP standards, and packaged in recyclable kraft pouches. The capsule shell uses bovine gelatin, so this product isn’t suitable for vegetarians or vegans. Take 2-3 capsules daily with food, and don’t exceed the recommended dose. Speak to your GP before use if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medication.
