What Astragalus Research Actually Shows
Astragalus root (Astragalus membranaceus) has centuries of traditional use in Chinese medicine, most commonly for immune support, general vitality, and stress resilience. As covered in more detail in our complete astragalus guide Astragalus Root Supplement: What It Is and How It May Support Wellbeing, modern research into these traditional uses is genuinely growing, but much of it remains at an earlier, preclinical stage — worth reading claims like “immune support,” “antioxidant protection,” and “skin health” as areas of research interest rather than established, guaranteed effects.
Each capsule provides 1,000mg of astragalus root in a vegetarian hypromellose capsule shell (a plant-based alternative to gelatine), with magnesium stearate from a vegetable source and no artificial preservatives, colours, or flavours.
Who should be cautious: avoid astragalus if you have an autoimmune condition, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take immunosuppressants, blood thinners, or medication for blood pressure or diabetes. If you have surgery scheduled, stop use at least two weeks beforehand, given astragalus’s potential effect on blood clotting. Speak to your GP before starting if any of these apply to you, or if you take other regular prescription medication.
Take 1-2 capsules daily with water, preferably with a meal. Do not exceed the stated dose.
